SteveJobs dropped out of Reed College and joined the videogame company. Jobs wanted to earn money. Because for his Reed collegemate Robert Friedland visited India for a spiritual journey. Friedland knew Neem Karoli Baba, who had been the guru to much of the sixties Hippie Movement. Jobs wanted to visit India for enlightenment, and he travelled to India with his friend Daniel Kottke. Jobs arrived NewDelhi.He drank unfiltered water because the hotel owner told a lie to him that unfiltered water was filtered water. So He had a severe fever and dysentery.
After recovery, he wanted to get out of New Delhi. He went to Haridwar, near the source of the Ganges. At this point, a great Hindu Festival, Kumbha Mela celebrated there. A lot of holy men around there. There were People riding Elephants. Jobs decided to get out there too. He went to a village near Nainital, in the foothills of the Himalayas. There Neem Karoli Baba lived. At the point Jobs got there, Baba was no longer alive. He rented a room with a mattress on the floor from a family feeding him a vegetarian meal. He walked around from village to village, recovered from his dysentery.
At that point, Jobs saw a Hindu holy man surrounded by his followers. Jobs wanted to meet a spiritual being and hang out with his followers, but he got a chance to get a good meal. As Jobs was eating, the holy man picked him out of the crowd, pointed at him and laughed. He gripped jobs and said, 'You are just like a baby'.They sat down. The holy man took his straight razor. Job worried he thought that man was a nutcase. Jobs had long hair at the time. He shaved Jobs's head. He says he was saving Steve's health.
Kottke arrived in India. Jobs went back to New Delhi. Jobs no longer wanted to try a Guru who could impart wisdom, but he was seeking enlightenment. He was not able to achieve inner calm. In a village marketplace, a Hindu woman sold watering down milk to them. He made a shouted match with her. Steve and Kottke went to Manali.Kottke's sleeping bag stole with his traveller checks in it. Steve covered his food expenses and a bus ticket back to Delhi. He went back to America he practised Zen Buddhism. Jobs' interest in eastern spirituality, Hinduism, Zen Buddism and search for enlightenment.
